Malba Praha

With his exhibition with an ironically straightforward title, Tomáš Císařovský opens for the first time a theme in his work that can be provocative just by the fact that it embodies traditional artistic clichés in general awareness. In spite of the fact that his new series of paintings and watercolours is de facto "only" about the profession he is engaged in and his hometown, there is more to the second plan than one would expect.

Tomáš Cisařovský

Tomáš Císařovský was born on 2 January 1962 in Prague and is a Czech painter. He studied at the SUPŠ in Wood Shaping and Carving in Prague in 1978-1982, and then at the Academy of Fine Arts under professors Paderlík and Ptáček in 1983-1988.

He is known as one of the most renowned Czech painters, using oil paints with strong shades and focusing mainly on portraits, figurative scenes and landscapes. He also works with watercolours and creates thematic series such as "From the diary of a legionary grandfather", "Naty, switch it up!" and "Without horses". His paintings are part of Czech and foreign galleries and are in public and private collections.

Císařovský is known for his expressive oil painting and experimentation with the visual language of painting. A significant part of his oeuvre consists of paintings with historical themes and figuralism.
